The new Klaviyo headless platform opened at K:BOS 2026 on September 9, giving Claude, ChatGPT, or any AI system a brand already uses more than 260 MCP tools and 490 APIs to read, write, and launch campaigns without anyone opening the Klaviyo dashboard. This is for marketers running ecommerce email and SMS who are tired of every AI experiment stopping at the edge of a platform’s own UI.

This is for marketers running ecommerce email and SMS who are tired of every AI experiment stopping at the edge of a platform’s own UI.
Klaviyo announced this in its own September 9 blog post, syndicated by MarTech Series a day later. This is first-party news from K:BOS, Klaviyo’s own conference, not a rumor.
- What “headless” actually means for a Klaviyo user
- What the new SQL access inside the Data Platform makes possible
- Why Personalization replaced Marketing Analytics
- What changed in Customer Agent, including a coming voice channel
- What’s still Preview-stage and worth waiting on

What the Klaviyo Headless Platform Actually Opens Up
Headless means Klaviyo’s own interface stops being the only way in. More than 260 MCP tools and 490 APIs are now callable directly from Claude, ChatGPT, or a custom-built agent, letting it read data, write changes, and launch campaigns without a marketer logging into Klaviyo.
Examples Klaviyo gave: a reporting dashboard built inside Cursor, a weekly performance review posted to Slack, an agent drafting a campaign for review. The dashboard becomes optional, not mandatory. Andrew Bialecki, Klaviyo’s co-founder and co-CEO, framed the reasoning directly: “An agent is only as useful as three things; whether it understands a brand’s data, whether it can reach that understanding from wherever it’s running, and whether it can act on it for every individual customer. Most platforms give a business one of those. With this launch, Klaviyo gives all three, built into one platform. That’s what separates real infrastructure from a walled garden.”
SQL Access Lands Inside the Data Platform
The second piece is plain-language data access. Marketers type a question in normal English inside Composer, and Klaviyo translates it into a SQL query against the Data Platform, covering the core data objects today.
This is currently Composer-only and marked Preview, with Claude and ChatGPT support listed as “coming soon,” not live yet. It’s aimed at anyone tired of waiting on a developer for a segment-level report.
Personalization Replaces Marketing Analytics
Klaviyo renamed its Marketing Analytics layer to Personalization, and the rename comes with a real change underneath it: specialized models built for each individual decision instead of one general-purpose model trying to do everything.
Pictured: three of Personalization’s four decision points, who, when, and where. The fourth, what to show, runs on the same specialized-model approach.
Four decision points now run this way: who to reach (Audience Optimization on live RFM data), what to show (1:1 Content, Product Recommendations, Discount Decisioning), when to reach (Personalized Send Time), and where (Channel Affinity). Klaviyo says brands can see the properties behind each decision and set their own goals, rather than trusting a black box. Preview-stage, not a full rollout yet.
Customer Agent Adds Languages and, Soon, a Voice
Customer Agent picked up two additions: international localization (100+ languages, automatic locale detection via Shopify Markets), and a coming voice channel for handling a full customer call using that customer’s existing history.
Klaviyo says Customer Agent has already exchanged 1.3 million messages, a real usage number worth noting even though it comes from Klaviyo itself rather than an independent audit.
Where This Fits the Bigger Pattern
Klaviyo isn’t alone here. KNOREX shipped its own MCP Server connecting Claude and OpenAI to live ad campaign data just over a week earlier, and Klaviyo’s own earlier Composer and MCP rollout, which Techfee covered in August, was the smaller preview of this same direction. Martech platforms are now competing on how easily an outside AI agent can plug in.
The pattern is the story here, not any single feature. If your stack includes more than one marketing tool, expect this same headless-access push to show up in the others within the next year.
What to Actually Check Before You Rely on This
Two of the four announcements, Personalization and SQL-via-chat, are Preview, not generally available, so don’t rebuild a workflow around either yet. No pricing changes were disclosed, and Klaviyo didn’t say whether MCP access requires a specific plan tier. Check your account for Preview access rather than assuming it’s live.

FAQ
What does it mean that Klaviyo went headless?
Klaviyo opened its platform so AI agents and outside tools can read, write, and act on marketing data directly, through more than 260 MCP tools and 490 APIs, without requiring anyone to log into Klaviyo’s own dashboard. Announced September 9, 2026, at K:BOS.
Is Klaviyo’s new SQL feature available now?
Only partially. Plain-language SQL querying is live in Preview inside Composer as of the September 9 announcement, covering profiles, events, segments, lists, and catalogs. Support for asking the same questions directly through Claude or ChatGPT is listed as “coming soon,” not available yet, and forms, flows, and custom objects are planned for later.
What happened to Klaviyo Marketing Analytics?
It was renamed to Personalization and rebuilt around specialized models for four separate decisions: who to reach using live RFM data, what to show through product recommendations and discounts, when to send, and which channel to use. The feature is currently in Preview, not a full rollout, and Klaviyo says brands can see the calculated properties behind each decision.
Does Klaviyo’s Customer Agent support voice calls?
Not yet. Klaviyo announced a voice channel is coming soon, which would let Customer Agent handle a full phone call from start to finish using a customer’s existing purchase and support history. It hasn’t shipped as of the September 9 announcement, and Klaviyo hasn’t given a specific release date.
My Take
My honest first read: opening 260+ MCP tools is the biggest of the four announcements, since it moves the actual work inside whatever AI tool a marketer already lives in. Specialized models per Personalization decision is a real architectural choice, not just a rename. What I’d test first once Preview access opens up is the SQL-via-Composer feature, since “ask a plain question, get a real segment” either saves real time or falls apart the moment a query gets specific. I haven’t touched any of this hands-on yet, so treat this as a first read, not a verdict.
