If you are running a blog, I am sure you must have come across the question, how often should I post a blog? Well, it depends on the scale your business operates. Small businesses write anything between one to four blogs per week, whereas big companies stretch it to once every day or even several times a day. But there are only so many topics you can write about. How do you come up with new blog ideas every day? I am here to share my tips on how to generate content ideas with topic research. I am also going to share 7 lesser-known ways to generate content ideas to rank higher on Google. So, keep reading!
Generate Content Ideas
Let us start with general tips and tricks on website content ideas for beginners.
- Create a list of topics beforehand
When you sit down to write a blog, you should not be wasting time thinking about what to write about. So, it’s better if you create a bunch of topics beforehand. If you aim to publish 3 blogs a week, I would suggest you dedicate 4-5 hours a week to research and write down 6-7 strong topics to write about. This way you will be having options to write about and you won’t be wasting time deciding the topic at the time of writing.
- Keep a tab on your competitors
Another great way of generating content ideas is to look at what your competitor is blogging about. Find a topic that your competitor has written about and then research over that topic. Find out what it is missing and how it can be made better. Then write, and write a much more detailed and informative blog than your competitor on a topic originally your competitor wrote about.
- Make use of Google suggestions
Have a general idea on your mind? Search it on Google. When you type in a term on Google, it shows you a list of similar searches. What it means is that when people look for your search term they are even interested in these terms. At the end of a search engine results page, there is another list of related searches. You can be sure that these topics are SEO friendly, as you have shortlisted them directly through Google.
- Topic Generating Platforms
There is a lot of content idea generator tool on the internet that can help you when you are stuck. I am sure you must have heard of BuzzSumo and Ahrefs Content Explorer. All you need to do is put in a bunch of keywords are they will come up with a lot of potential ideas for a blog.
- News and recent events
When I say you can use the news to generate topic ideas, I don’t mean write a blog on the most trending news. Writing about everything trending on the news won’t be beneficial to your business. What I mean is for you to write about trending news in your industry. For example, the industry I am related to is Digital Marketing, a hot topic in Digital Marketing right now is Google algorithm update, so I might consider writing a blog around Google algorithm.
P.S. – I will be writing a blog about Google algorithm update. Stay tuned! Subscribe to our newsletter to get an update about our latest postings.
Must explore these effective methods to generate high volume ideas on any topic that can help you rank on Google
Well, listed above were some general tips on how to curate content. Now, as promised I am going to share 7 lesser-known ways to generate content ideas that can help you rank higher on Google. So here you are:
- Use Google Images
Why am I so focused on using Google? Because that’s where you want to rank. Last time I told you to use Google suggest and the ‘related to’ section of Google’s SERP. But this technique is very commonly used for content ideas and keyword ideas. What I am going to share here is using Google Images.
Head on to Google images, and write a broad term related to your niche. This way Google will suggest a lot of tags containing a group of images. Just use these tags and combine them to form a topic worth writing about
2. Write on new topics
Another way to find topics that can help you rank on Google is by writing something new.
By writing something new I mean writing on a topic that isn’t on the surface yet. These “new” topics won’t be competitive and hence can help you rank higher on Google.
You can use a free tool like ubersuggest which scans the internet for topics that are on the rise of getting popular.
3. Know from the community and your audience
Go through the comments on your blogs and interact with your audience. Let them tell you what they want to read about. Similarly, you can use Quora or other question-answer platforms to know what the general audience is looking for. And then accordingly you can write a detailed blog about a topic people want to read about.
4. Getting ideas from YouTube
When a person wants to know about something, he/she either read a blog about it or watches a YouTube video on the topic. So why not generate ideas from YouTube?
All you need to do is head over to YouTube, search for a broad term on your niche and you will see hundreds of videos. Choose the topic that is ranking on top and write about that topic.
5. Update and repost old content
When you absolutely can’t come up with anything new to write, just go through your old content. Choose content that worked well for you in the past, research that topic, and update it accordingly. Then repost it. Since this content worked for you in the past, it should work for you again.
6. Make use of Pinterest
Just like Google Suggest, Pinterest also has a suggested search feature. But with Pinterest, you will get a different set of suggestions than Google. What’s more impressive about using Pinterest for content ideas is that Pinterest isn’t very common to everyone. It is an untapped source of keywords and content ideas.
7. Using Job portals
Yes, you heard right. You can use job portals to generate content ideas. Go through the job descriptions in your niche and look for keywords. Let’s say your niche is Data Analysis, go to various job portals and go through the job description of Data Analysis jobs. Let’s say you come across keywords like Python. You can write topics around this keyword and so on.
Every writer/blogger has difficulty writing from time to time, but this should not stop you from generating new content ideas. Take advantage of the tools and resources I listed above. Implement these tips and let me know in the comment how did it work for you.
